Birthday cupcakes for the hubby

Order these from Evan, whose blog you can access from the right of my site under "Evan's Kitchen Ramblings". She has recently started her home based baking business and cos all her pics look so....good, i wanted to try some of her wares! She was very nice and accomodating to all my requests, from making a mega cupcake to travelling all the way from the north to the west to pass me the cakes.

Anyway, these are Carrot Walnut Cupcakes with Cream Cheese frosting! My all time favourite!!! The hubby doesn't really eat cakes, so you know these were actually more for me than him. There were 9 regular size cupcakes and 1 mega one. The hubby ate only 1 mouthfull from the mega cupcake and 1 regular size. I would have love to finish the rest all by myself.... seriously....what better time to indugle than during pregnancy rite?
But nope..a trip to the gynae got my hubby watching my sugar intake like a hawk. No...I am not at risk of gestation diabetics (at least not yet) but I put on 1.5kg within 3 weeks. Needless to say, the doc wasn't too happy with me, gave a list of instructions, sugar intake being the most important on his list. So sobz...4 of these cupcakes went to my in laws...I only got to eat the remaining 4 cos I was smart enough to sneak into the kitchen when hubby was buzy, and packed the lovely cakes into a small, discreet looking tupperwear and stuff it right at the back of the fridge. kekeke....i later smuggled them to my office to enjoy with a cup of coffee...

Oh..btw, the cupcakes were moist and full of flavour with nice nutty bites of walnut! The generous topping of cream cheese was very much appreciated...a pregnant woman needs her calcium! ;-)

Stomaches + Baby Kicks = ...........

A very very bad stomache. I kid you not.

I finally gave in and have been taking the fruit extract pills from the gynae for the past recent weeks. These harmless looking pills look like some rabbit food, and it's prescribed to patients, esp pregnant mummies, to ease the loo problem. It's been known that pregnant women often have problems in the loo, due to the iron supplements and the relaxed bowel muscles or something along that line. Just know that I first tried this pill 3 years ago after a surgery, and sweared never to take it again..it caused such terrible stomaches (the non-stop churning types) that I resorted to taking "Bao Zi Wan" in the end. My sis and I ( yes, we have the same gynae) shared the same sentiments, both of us are darn scared of these brown little pills.

The hubby has been nagging me to take it since the doc gave me the pills, but I refused. He thinks I am just being a baby and (I think) a bad, irresponsible mother. Why? Because he has this phobia of baby ingesting waste product in the tummy ever since he found out why one of his cousins was born mentally challenged (sorry i can't think of a better word right now, apologies if I offend anyone). We confirmed the cousin's diagnosis with my gyane, apparently it can happen to anyone. So besides the hubby, I also have been feeling very very stress about my trips to the loo (sorry if this is too personal an entry, esp this being a food blog, but a 1st time mum-to-be really has alot of insecurities). I have up my fruits and water intake, but the problem wasn't going away....so I gave in...and took the pills! I want to be a good mother after all and honestly, I felt like my belly was going to explode, with the baby growing and ahem...u noe what i mean.

So anyway, true to my expectation, these pills have been giving me stomaches. I got it quite bad over the weekend. I don't know why but each time the aches got worse, the baby would kick harder! And that made it more painful for me. I am guessing the stomach churning away was a bit too distracting or irritating to the little sweetie..and she was showing her displeasure...oh..btw, we don't know the baby's gender yet..but until we know for sure, the baby is a she...it's not nice to call baby an "it" right?

So I spent the weekend nursing a bad tummy...with baby doing aerobics along with it. She must have been working out really hard, I could see little bumps all over my belly.... infact, she's still doing her kickboxing now...and no...the tummyaches are still not going away....Sobz...
