Baked Chicken With Mixed French Herbs

This is recipe has been categorised under "Lazy Days Meal"! And the husband will be seeing more of this in future. This dish is just so amazing...super simple, quite effortless and so yummy. What's not to like about this? Nothing I tell u, those of you out there who hates to dirty your kitchen..this is the dish for you!

Ingredients
1/2 Chicken
A few pinch of mixed french herbs (I got mine from this little store Hediard at Tudor Court)
Salt & pepper
A few mad dash of garlic powder

1. Rub all ingredients listed above over the chicken. Leave to marinate for as long as possible.
Overnight is good. If not possible, at least 30mins.
2. Preheat oven to 180 deg
3. Place chicken onto a oven proof tray and bake for 20mins, turn chicken onto another side and
bake for another 15-20mins.
3. Grill chicken, skin side up for about 5 mins to get crispy skin.

That's it..so simple..

We went botak last night

I recently found out about this famous western food joint in one of the blogs I freqent..and realised there's one outlet near my house. So when the hubby asked where I would like to go for dinner, Botak Jones came to mind. Our friends must be surprised there was no fancy resturant, no candle light dinner...it was after all our 1st wedding anniversary celebration. Well...we were in the mood for a quiet evening and when a gf suggested I tabao (takeaways/to-go) food home, I thought it was a brilliant idea. Hubby also like it that there was no big bill for the night! haha..so armed with the streetdirectory, we hunted down Botak Jones in the west.

Located at the end of Singapore...Tuas.
We were straving by the time we got there..so we ordered these...

Whoopass Cheese Fries (this thing can feed 6 pax easily)
Cajun Chicken Plate (tender chicken breast..nice)
NZ Ribeye Steak (nicely done medium rare..but by the time we got home it was medium well which is how we like it!)e Botak Burger (very good! for this kind of price and quality..I am never going back to Billy Bombers again. It came with the usual works, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & cheese but the beef patty is juicy, not the dry kind u get in some fancy resturants)
One oreo cheese cake missing in the picture. It's still sitting in my fridge cos we were simply too full to stuff it in.
All these food and it only cost us $40! If we had gone to any american resturant, it would have easily cost us $100.00. Of course this place is purely a no frills eating joint. There is no ambience to speak off.
But well..remember we were doing takeaway? Ha.. we made a mad dash for home in the crazy peak hours traffic and created our own "ambience". Lights off, with our huge candle, jazz music in the background and chilled wine..no crowds, romantic no? Ahem...pictures above taken before the lights were turned off..

This chef is sad...

I am sad....why..u may think it's silly but I think sisters in the International Organization For Bag Lovers will understand why I am feeling so blue today..

I bought a lovely bag yesterday...a really nice bag. Moi got a new Dior bag..I shall not disclose the obsence amount I spent but lets just say my heart will break a little when I see my bank statement next month.

Now you must be thinking I should be jumping with joy and hugging my new bag to sleep..but why am I sad..I tell u why....my sister borrowed it home last night. Yes...fresh out of the boutique, still in it's white snowy paper bag..my sister brought it home..cos she wanted to try it on for size..see if she could fit in all her barang barang...though I wanted to scream a million no...I couldn't refuse her, could I?

I think you guys can see where this is going now....the bag was returned to me less than an hour ago..while it's perfectly ok to stain the snowy paper bag (with red crayon marks!!)....I was heartbroken when I took out my new calf skin Dior bag..there are scratches on the leather!!!! and not one....there are like 5 very visible marks on the top! Sobz.....now the wife cannot run to the hubby for hugs can she, since she bought the bag behind his back! Sobz....kill me...my heart is bleeding...

A new mustard lover.

I used to hate mustard and I meant that with a capital H! As in really detest that yellow, not too good looking sauce! But in last April, while sitting at a fast food resturant in S. Korea's airport, I was given a tiny box of mustard to go with my fries..Guess what? I fell hard! The husband was so amused when we went grocery shopping that weekend and saw me picking up a bottle of that once much hated sauce. Haha..well..what do they say?..One's tastebuds change as one grows older...

Roasted Honey Mustard Chicken with onions and garlic, served with french fries and homemade coleslaw.

*The husband and I actually ate one whole cabbage and one long carrot in one day. Now...that's alot of veges..considering the mr is a meat lover.*

Char Siew Rice - the Healthy MFC version

Moi have been busy...First with the Chinese New Year preparation, then with the intensive Mahjong training during CNY and a lovely trip to Bali..the island of the thousand temples..thus there had been no post lately..not much cooking since we traditionally spend most of the CNY with our parents and relatives and no matter where you go, there's always food and more food.
Argh...i feel laden with gulit just thinking about how much I had stuff myself silly this season..I felt even worse when I checked out the bikini pictures taken in Bali..OMG..how did I get that fat?!?! and felt like hell when I compared those pictures with the ones I had taken during my honeymoon in the maldives....

Anyway, no matter how fat one is...one still needs to eat right..haha..so moi made the char siew I mentioned in my earlier post.

This is my version of the popular local dish, easily found anywhere in Sg. Unlike the H.K. version which is more fatty, mine is made of lean pork. More lean than what the local hawkers sell, cos remember .... I cannot afford more fats! Instead of serving the char siew with white rice or even chicken rice is some stalls, I served mine with white/brown rice mixed with millets, organic ones too..and not to forget a good dollop of sambal chilli. The thing missing is slices of cucumber as I didn't have any at home..so I stir-fried a dish of cabbage to go with it instead. I also opt not to do additional char siew sauce for the rice, as I want mine to be dry..and less sauce means less calories right? =) Hee...

Before I go..a few pictures of the beautiful resort I stayed in, in Ubud, Bali.

The Alila Ubud...with their world famous pool..supposely the world's top 50 most beautiful pools, some claimed even the top 10. I can understand why...
